Had dinner last night and what a dinner it was. Started off with the chicken liver mousse on toast points. Amazing. This was followed by the French Onion soup. Absolutely amazing. For my main course, I had the Dover Sole. Seasoned properly and served with French butter. Absolutely spectacular. I'm not usually the desert guy but last night I made an exception. I had the mixed berry cobbler. Kudos to the pastry chef. Service was amazing. Can't wait to return.
I cannot begin to explain how great this place was. My god was the food delicious. After seeing it featured on so many Youtube videos, I was very eager to come and check it out for myself and it did not disappoint; it actually exceeded all expectations. So we enter, and it's a very hidden spot in Hollywood. I assumed that it would be a bigger restaurant given the hype, but it looks like a very small pub tucked away in a plaza, next to what used to be a laundromat. Due to the size of the restaurant, we were sat right next to people at the bar area (the entirety of the inside was actually a bar type of seating). Given how small it is inside, I'm not sure if I would recommend this place for a larger group, but there were more tables outside on the patio. We started off with steak tartare and the escargot, served with a baguette and toast. The escargot was really good, highly recommend if you enjoy escargot; it was buttery and had loads of garlic, everything you want from escargot. The steak tartare was the better appetizer in my opinion though. It's topped with this delicious crispy onion (or shallot, I don't remember), and it was perfection in every possible way. For entree, we got the big mec, and their skirt steak. For the skirt steak, we asked for both the bernaise and the au poivre sauces on the side. I loved having both, and I honestly would not have been able to choose between either of them. The steak was delicious with both sauces, but the standout was definitely the burger. I still dream of this burger, and I'm afraid to have another burger because of how the big mec has ruined all other burgers for me. It's delicious, well seasoned, and covered with their bordelaise sauce. The sauce is absolutely to die for. I was dipping the fries and steak in it. The minute we finished eating, I immediately had to google recipes for these sauces. I would also be remiss to not point out how good the fries were as well. I believe that they were fried in clarified butter (don't quote me), but it absolutely made a difference in the taste. This unassuming small restaurant was one of my favorite places I've been to this year, and I cannot say enough good things about it. I highly recommend this place if you're in the LA area. Yes, it's in Hollywood, but worth the drive.
Chef Ludo has really outdone himself with this restaurant. I've been wanting to try it and finally i was able to bring my parents for their 67 year anniversary and it was everything i expected and more. From the chives on the omelette to the little cookie you get when you order espresso. The food was cooked to perfection! Our party had the pasta and the steak frites and the omelette which is now a standard to which no other restaurant can fill. We also had the creme brûlée and the cobbler. Cest magnifique !! Well done. We will be back !
Been there two times in the last two weeks. Fresh, authentic French menu items and preparation. Reduced my review by one star because the only indoor seating is at the counter. The outdoor seating is comfortable, but I generally prefer to sit indoors but not at counters.
How could you not love this place? A teeny tiny French bistro lost in a tiny mini mall. Ordered the Big Mec and the lunch prix fixe menu this time around. The burger is super rich and tasty. You definitely need the frites that comes with it to soak up all the gravy goodness. The French onion soup is rich and gooey and oh so delish! The beet salad was a total highlight for this trip. I never would've ordered it by itself but being a part of the lunch special made me try it and I'm so glad we did! It was SO GOOD! The beets, the almonds, the horseradish cream! YUMMMM! The main course was the trout almondine - very filling and absolutely great flavors. And for the finale- the chocolate mousse! How could you go wrong?!?! Petit Trois always a great experience every time.
Definitely enjoyed this intimate setting for a nice French meal. This would be a great place for a celebration or a nice evening out. WHAT WE ORDERED - Burgundy Escargot: buttery, garlicy, delicious -- what else could you ask for? A fun way to start off the night. - French Onion Soup: a good soup to cheese ratio, but our table thought the soup got cold really fast, which made the soup taste saltier than anticipated. - Belgian Endive: I really enjoyed the lightness and acidity of the dish -- it helped cut the richness of the rest of the meal. - Baguette: I've heard that French baguettes are magical, and this was a magical baguette and butter. How could you go wrong with bread though! - Omelette petit trois: this was my favorite dish of the night (but I am also partial to all egg based dishes). The omelette was cooked perfectly with that soft, silky texture. The boursin cheese was also heavenly inside and provided a nice creaminess to the dish. It also comes with the Boston Lettuce salad, which also helped provide brightness to the dish. - Steak frites: A solid medium rare and just enough frites to go around! - Chocolate souffle: oh man what a delicious way to end the meal! The most decadent chocolate dish that is meant to be shared. Be sure to order in advance. This felt like just enough for a party of 4 since we all got to have a sampling of every dish. By the end of the meal, you feel satisfied but not stuffed to the point of rolling out. Parking is either valet or street.
This was my first visit to chef Ludovic Lefebvre's classic French bistro. There is a second Petit Trois in Sherman Oaks that apparently is larger and has a similar but not identical menu. His fine dining spot Trois Mec used to be next door in a space that still has a "Pizza" sign out front. It's now used for extra seating on some evenings. Petit Trois is in a strip mall along Highland Ave. and has a pretty narrow interior with only high-top counter seating facing the kitchen or the opposite wall. There is a wider patio in front with actual tables. I booked a lunch reservation because I saw online they have a 3-course prix- fixe weekday lunch option for $44, with 2-3 options for each course. I chose the beet salad, trout almondine and choux chantilly. I also ordered the chicken liver mousse appetizer and the jambon buerre sandwich with frites because I wanted to try their versions. The beet salad was great, with a kick from horseradish cream and crunch from almonds and pistachios. The chicken liver mousse was also fine and substantial, with a much softer texture that a traditional pate, served over toast. The trout also had crunch from the almonds and tang/acidity from the capers and lemon. I ate the frites while here and took the ham sandwich home. It had Gruyere cheese as well; I couldn't really taste the butter. The baguette was fine; note they are not made in-house (no space!). The choux chantilly, a profiterole-like pastry filled with cream, was meh, it would have benefited greatly with the addition of fruit. The place became busy pretty quickly, and service was decent It was fun watching the chefs and line cooks prepare, plate, inspect and serve the dishes; I got several glimpses of dished I did not order but may in the future. Overall a great authentically French lunch.
C'est splendide! It's been on my list for too long, so I went for lunch on a Tuesday. We got lucky with a seat at the bar. We ordered escargot, a butter lettuce salad and split the mussels. Paired with a glass of Sancerre and Chablis. The result was the classic quintessential French dining experience. Everything was prepared perfectly. We sopped up the buttery garlicky sauce that came with the escargot with a fresh baguette. Heavenly. Crisp, thin pom frites came with the mussels, which were swimming in a tasty white wine broth. I've been to France and this matched what we ate there to a T.
In Short, Love this place from 10 years ago and today it's still excellent as it was the first time. Must Try spot. With a few more details, Petit Trois is growing and yes they have a much bigger restaurant in SFV and now more seating at this branch but I still like to sit at the bar and watch the cooking happening in front of me and feeling the heat from the kitchen. The bar used to be all of the seating they had and it's something I like when I come here. The atmosphere is always nice. Night and day. Although I like it when it's busy at night. Blaring french hip hop and yummy food and a healthy loud environment. I bet with the new patio outside it gives it more space. The service was wonderful. Appropriate wait time and very friendly chat with Ryan who was excellent. The food. Everything you get here tastes fantastic. The french onion soup. Escargot. Chicken liver. But my favorite is the Big Mec Burger. So juicy with so much flavor. It looks heavy but it is not. The bordelaise sauce gives it a nice tang and the extra on your plate is to dip your burger in. Yes eat with your hands. Garlic aioli with the fries are real good. The have verbal specials from time to time and this time is was a french dip. It was STACKED with meat and provolone cheese with caramelized onions on the bottom. It was epic especially that the jus is the same from the french onion soup. Anyway you should know by now that I highly recommend this place and it's one of my favorite little restaurants in LA.
